  6. Planning (Contd.) • Absolute need to re visit Fed Min of Health Nigeria rules as regards to Medical Mission in Nigeria. • Change of current Enugu USA Board’s attitude may make compliance feasible. • Funding – The Board should be fully involved, if not, assume full responsibility!!

  9. 2013 Enugu USA Medical Mission(Synopsis of the Mission) . Mission kicked off at The Enugu State Government House Clinic • I clearly noted the uninformed criticism for visiting Govt. House. • Practically, and being honest – Med Mission has been adopted by the Enugu Government. • Over 300 Poor Enugu Government workers treated. Few came back for follow up

  10. Synopsis of Mission • Data on a good number of the patients at the Government House clinic collected. • Analysis of the data, and all other data to follow. • Visited Communities in 7 Health District areas – Analysis of data to follow • Specifically, over 700 patients were treated at the Enugu East Local Government area. Lesson to learn from the role of Church.

  11. Synopsis Continued • Findings include very high prevalence of Hypertension. • Regional variance in severity of Hypertension. • Quick review of data reveals Nsukka area had more severely hypertensive patients – Will assist future planning. • Surprising, a good number of people had low blood sugar - ??Role of economic challenges.

  12. Outstanding performances by all team members. • Scope of Mission broadened to include dental care and some preventive medicine. • Everyone has a role. • Will defer accounting to the appropriate individuals. Final account to be submitted as per constitutional requirement.

  13. Achievement over last 20 Months • Enugu USA Medical Mission Team has become the most transparent arm of Enugu USA Organization in America. • Close to 6,000 – 7,000 patients have been treated during the medical mission team over the last 20 months. • Continuity of care has been integral part of our long term goal. Medications worth several thousands of dollars are currently available to help out any community that establishes continuity of care. • Proper accountability. 95% of last year’s medical mission account was completed within 48 hours of completing the mission.

  14. Achievements continued • Medication and funds may be available for 2014 Medical Mission. • Active involvement of Enugu Medical/Health professionals in USA. • Close liaison with our partners in Nigeria. • Close working relationship with Park Lane Hospital and ESUT Medical School.

  15. Achievements continued • Willingness to take responsibility for actions of previous years including ensuring that people that paid for Brochure in 2011 are taken care of. • Medical Mission Team has been actively trying to trace Monies donated to Enugu USA Medical Team that may be paid into other accounts i.e. if all parties involved co operate

  16. Achievements continued • Maintained close working relationship with Enugu State Government. • Involved Local Government Chairmen with our activities to an unprecedented level. • Maintained integrity of Medical Mission team to the extent that other organizations are keen to partner with the team (but within the confines of Enugu USA Constitution) etc.

  17. Way Forward • We have medications worth several thousands of dollars left. • The medication will be used to encourage communities to establish continuity of care etc. • Choose a date for 2014 Medical Mission before the next convention. • Ideas are welcome.

  18. Way Forward • Continue to raise fund year round • Look for other sources of funding • Continue to work closely with the Government, LGA, Park Lane and ESUT Medical School • Support the incoming team • Continue to ensure data are collected

  19. Way Forward • Will soon start analysis of data • Continue transparency • Other ideas are welcome. • Thanks.
