The Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD) is a nonprofit community development corporation in the Vernon-Central neighborhood of South Los Angeles. Mission & History CRCD works with residents, businesses, community organizations, and civic leaders to foster a safe and economically vibrant community where young people have opportunities to thrive. Founded in 2005, CRCD’s mission is to better sustain, coordinate, and improve local planning, development, and community services that address the needs of low-income residents, Transition Age Youth, and small businesses in South Los Angeles.
CRCD serves a 15 square-mile area immediately south of downtown Los Angeles. The Vernon-Central neighborhood is generally located east of the 110 Harbor Freeway and south of Washington Boulevard, in the southern portion of Los Angeles City Council District 9. In CRCD’s target area, 37% of families have incomes at or below the poverty level, and 21% of young people aged 16-24 are unemployed.
