  3. HYBRID CARS A hybrid car features a small fuel-efficient gas engine combined with an electric motor that assists the engine when accelerating. The electric motor is powered by batteries that recharge automatically while you drive.

  4. Why is it good? • The eco-friendly Civic also reduces emissions by shutting down its engine at traffic lights, starting it again the moment the driver plonks his foot onto the accelerator. • Smaller and good • Advanced aero-dynamics to reduce drag

  5. Issue 1: Cost • Costs a lot to assemble car • Therefore have to sell at higher price

  6. Our suggestions.. • Car companies can liaise with governments to provide subsidies or tax exemptions for hybrid car buyers • Government can provide funding for improvement in technology

  7. Issue 2: Technology is relatively new • Not many people are willing to embrace this new technology

  8. Our suggestions.. • Bring about awareness through competitions & campaigns • E.g. Subaru Car Challenge

  9. Issue: Competition • Alternative eco-friendly choices to hybrid cars • E.g. Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars • E.g. Solar-powered Cars • E.g. Natural Gas Cars • E.g. Gas-to-liquid Cars

  10. Our counter-argument.. • Hybrid cars are a transition from petrol cars to the other alternatives. • Hybrid cars can travel faster • Beats gas-to-liquid cars (45kmph) • Hybrid cars can travel more • 29.5km per litre of petrol
