Teaching Tips Kerry Litzenberg Presidential Professor and Regents Professor Department of Agricultural Economics Texas A&M University July 2011
STAYING FRESH !!!!You should Teach with excitement and high motivation..……………and here is how to do that……………TEACH…… • Team Teach (really both of you at the same time) with someone older (younger) than you • NEW stuff in your old course • NEW ways to teach topics in your current course • NEW courses • Large (Small) classes • in a different setting (department, format, country, age (6th graders) • to industry folks • Have visitors evaluate your teaching • Volunteer to do peer teaching reviews – it is amazing what you can learn.
New stuff I’ve tried in the last 5 years…that you might want to try………. • Clickers (“One Click at a Time”) -Decreases inactive learners – gets people to class – better prepared for outset quizzes. • Podcasting (creating video reviews of your course learning topics) • VideoLearningInSales.tamu.edu (website for student supplemental learning in the sales class – Dr Litz Productions) • Company Prospecting Class ( use a company who comes into class to show the profile of their target market and then the students prospect for customers. • SalesContest.tamu.edu (campus-wide sales role playing contest. Partnership between Marketing, Ag Economics and Industrial Distribution depts.
