Proxy for Law School Quality • The Chapman Law Review is one of the primary faces of the Law School to the outside world • Selection of author and symposia topics have influence on reputation and citations • Respect to authors and timeliness of publications is critical to not only the review’s reputation but also the Law School and will ensure that authors want to publish with CLR, now and in the future

Proxy for Member Quality in the Legal Marketplace • Membership on Law Review gives you a leg up with most employers • Most employers use it as a proxy for quality • Even better if you work hard and then become a member of the executive board next year • So, maximize the opportunity you have been given to distinguish yourself

Grading and Credit • Compliance with deadlines • Attendance at required courses • Completion of a publishable note or comment that provides a unique contribution to legal scholarship • Attendance at Symposium • Please review the Bylaws and comply • Anything else the Board tells you to do – they are in charge

  8. Deadlines • VERY VERY VERY Important that you meet all designated deadlines. • Production schedules are important for reputation of the law school • Production schedules are important for achieving your credit

  9. Advising • Although Professors Rotunda and Kochan are the official advisors, most faculty members will be available, you just need to be proactive.

Concluding Remarks • Good luck • Become Bluebook experts • Attend the instructional sessions • Everything you do, editing and writing, will make you better writers for all of your classes • Make contacts with internal and external faculty • Treat this as an employment position – the third years are, indeed, the bosses
