Aims of the Session • Introductions • Share with participants the evaluation of Youth Day 2013 • Inform participants of the new process for Youth Day 2014 • Learn about the Youth Day Ambassadors programme and packages available • Begin to think about partnership work with groups/agencies • Use the session to begin planning ideas for activities and events • Share with others the support that is available
What is Youth Day? • What do you think it is? • To celebrate the positive achievements young people in Salford make. • To highlight and recognise the efforts of young people in enhancing • global society. • Promote ways to engage them in becoming more actively involved in • making positive contributions to their communities.
What is the role of Young People? • We want all young people to have a positive and active role in their communities and wider society. • Young people having a say in decisions that affect them as active members of their communities • Volunteering and making a positive contribution to their communities to be a natural part of young people’s lives both in school and college and beyond. • Young people to be respected as valued members of society and recognised for the contribution they make.

Youth Day 2013 report Salford’s second “Youth Day” celebrated the positive contributions that young people make to life in the city. The event built on the early successes of Youth Day 2012
Overview • Tuesday 3rd September • Young people and practitioners successfully delivered a day of positive activities and a celebration event on Tuesday 3September 2013. • Around 429 young people and 129 adults ran over 15 events. • We reached at least 1500 people
Activities • Young People produced and hosted • celebration events all over the city. • Young people and their community participated in activities. • Salford Young People’s Council and Young People from Youth Centres created promotional films about their events.

Aims of Youth Day 2014 Tuesday 12th August • To celebrate the positive achievements young people in Salford • make. • To highlight and recognise the efforts of young people in • enhancing global society. Promote ways to engage them in • becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.
Outcomes • Promote and celebrate young people who live and work in Salford. • Encourage City leaders, businesses and our partners to actively participate in the build up and delivery of Youth Day. • Break the negative perceptions the media/society has about young people locally and nationally. • Increase the number of website visits to Wuu2 and number of those who sign up to its online forums.
Types of activities we are looking for • Celebration events in the community • Radio interviews • Sponsored walk, sports day • Open Youth Centres/venues across the city • Develop relationships in other communities • Exhibitions, films, animations
Funding • Up to £150 available per group • Must have a local or international theme • E-safety training 16th April • Applications will be emailed at the end of April • Show and tell event 6th May • Application forms must be received by 15th May • You will know outcome of funding by 30th May.
The role of the Young People’s Council • To empower young people up to the age of 25* and under to influence and inform the decisions that affect their lives. • Support other young people to get involved in their communities and democracy locally, nationally and internationally, making a difference as campaigners, decision-makers and leaders. • Help other young people, whatever their • background or barriers they face, to make Salford • a better place for us all.
