Typical form of PRAYER ADORATION: EUCHARISTIC ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Eucharist • During the consecration (the part of the Mass in which the priest prays over the bread and wine, repeating Jesus’ prayers from the Last Supper) the bread & wine become the body and blood of Christ
Eucharist • the body and blood of Christ are referred to as the ‘Blessed Sacrament’
Eucharist • Jesus is truly presentin the Eucharist. • Eucharistic adoration: is a type of prayer in which one meditates before the Blessed Sacrament [and thus before Jesus] either privately = individually; or communally = together
Eucharist • This communal prayer is referred to as Benediction. • Benediction = special ritual prayer and blessing with the Blessed Sacrament
A monstrance is an ornate ‘container’ for the consecrated host
