Major food groups •Meat, fish, eggs and beans provide proteins that our bodies need to repair themselves. • Grains and starchy foods (rice, bread, pasta) are a good source of energy. • Fruits and vegetables contain vitamins and minerals that help protect our bodies from illnesses. • Milk and dairy also contain protein, and they are a source of calcium, which is very important for our bones. • Fats and sugars are also important, for energy, though in this country many of us sometimes eat toomany of them.
