Process Mining • Process mining involves extraction of knowledge from event logs of transactional processing systems like ERP, CRM, SCM… • Objective: • To help in suggesting alternative ways of working (process redesign) • Can be used to compare between expected process model and the actual process model. The purpose is to discover discrepancies to improve the process according to expectations
Perspectives of mining • Process perspective (How) For example in terms of petri-nets, EPC to provide a good characterization of process flow • Organizational perspective (Who) Identifying people involved in process and how they interact with process and each other • Case perspective (What) For characterizing cases and case types (their path, values and their originators)
Example of log file (cont.) • Note that every case starts with activity A and ends with activity D. • Although splits and joins are not explicitly given but it is assumed that when any two activities occur in any order it means AND-split (concurrent activities)
