Staying at Deguang Summer vacation in Taiwan Deguang Catholic high school 台南市天主教德光中學 Alex Bresler 趙培藝 11/16/2012
Campus Tour-Day One The first day at Deguang we toured the campus. We got to see many of the classrooms, the gymnasium, the library, and the auditorium.
What I think我的感想 The tour was very fun. Deguang is much bigger than Walter Payton, and also has many more facilities. It was very interesting to see all that Deguang had to offer
DAY TWO We played charades and other games with the International Students. We also made some Chinese food, and visited a Chinese Language Center at a local university.
What I think我的感想 The international students were a lot of fun, and the charades games were funny. The Chinese was hard to make, but it tasted good. The presentation at the university was very informative but also very funny.
First High School and the Mayor-Day Three We visited the First High School of Tainan on Wednesday. We toured their campus and went to one of their classes. We then went to a Confucius temple and then had a meeting with the vice mayor.
What I think我的感想 The First High School was also much bigger than Walter Payton, and their classes were interesting. The Confucius temple tour was fun but also a little long. Meeting with the mayor was a big honor.
Singing, Stamping, and Studying-Day Four On Thursday we performed “Dui Bu Qi” in front of the entire school. We then learned about Chinese and Taiwanese festivals from our study buddies. We then attended some classes with them and had the school lunch. At the end of the day we learned to write calligraphy and made stamps of our names.
What I think我的感想 Singing in front of the whole school was scary but also fun. The calligraphy was very difficult, I still don’t know how the teachers were so good at it. Our class on Chinese festivals was also very interesting.
What I think我的感想 It was very fun, but I don’t think I did a very good job. It also surprises me how much you can do with a piece of paper and a pair of scissors.
Historic sites 歷史古蹟 We went to a lot of places, like Confucius temple, Shi kan lou, and even more temples. And a church.
What I think我的感想 The temples are very interesting and pretty, and Shi kan lou has a lot of history, but after a while it all looks the same. The Chinese style church is different then what I’m used to.
Food 美食 So much food here!
What I think 我的感想 FOOD! YUMMY FOOD! GOOD FOOD! Enough said.
