  13. SIGNODE RECYCLING HISTORY • Signode has been a consumer of recycled material since the 1980’s. • In 1992 ITW acquired Plastic Recycling Alliance (Joint venture between Dupont and Waste Management) • Relocated PRA to the Kentucky facility in 1997 adjacent to Signode strapping plant

FUN FACTS ABOUT RECYCLING • The first PET bottle was recycled in 1977 • An estimated 7,700 Curbside Collection programs and 10,000 Drop-Off programs collect PET in the US • Approximate number of PET beverage bottles per pound: 16 oz = 18 bottles per pound 20 oz = 19 bottles per pound 2 liter = 9 bottles per pound Source: Napcor

MORE FUN FACTS • Recycling a ton of PET containers saves 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space • According to the EPA, recycling a pound of PET saves approximately 12000 BTU’s • The average household generates 42 pounds of PET plastic bottles a year • It takes 19 bottles to make an x-large t-shirt Source: Napcor
