  8. Innovation Network with energy innovation Finnish Innovation System • Based on the guidelines formulated by the Finnish Science and Technology Policy Council • Cooperation between companies, public organizations, universities and other establishments of research and education plays an important role • The Tampere Region is living proof of a well functioning innovation system where new ideas quickly become products

  9. Innovation Network with energy innovation Sentre - the Network for Sustainable Energy Solutions • Network of business, research and education that develops solutions for sustainable energy • Offers private businesses a chance to network with other companies as well as with educational and research organizations • Mission is to closely link the Tampere energy cluster with other European and global competence clusters operating in the field of energy

  10. Innovation Network with energy innovation Competitive and clean • Finland is ranked first in the world in environmental sustainability • Finland has consecutive three times identified as the world’s most competitive economy • Sustainable energy solutions are playing an important role in securing environmentally sound economic growth for the future Bioenergy is proven technology • 19,5 % of the total primary energy and 12 % of all electricity produced in Finland is bioenergy

  11. The world hungers for sustainable energy solutions We are facing a greater challenge than ever before. Let’s network and face it together. Technology Centre Hermia LtdHermiankatu 1, FIN-33720 Tampere, Finlandwww.sentre.fi

  12. Business Take advantage of the leading Finnish energy cluster Modern biomass harvesting technologies • Biomass bundling method for cost-effective harvesting, transport and processing of forest residues. • Enables even 200 km supply radius for forest residues • Enables large scale utilization at power plants

  13. Business Take advantage of the leading Finnish energy cluster World´s largest biomass power plant Alholmens Kraft, Pietarsaari, Finland • 550 MWth / 194 kg/s / 165 bar / 545 °C • Wood, peat, coal • Multifuel power plant with Finnish fluidized • Bed boiler plant and novel fuel feeding system • 200 MW Electricity • 350 MW Heat for indutry and community

  14. Business Take advantage of the leading Finnish energy cluster Power plant modernization • Coal-fired power boilers are gradually being converted to combust renewable fuels in an effort to meet challenging targets set for renewables and carbon dioxide emissions. • The Pannon Thermal Power Plant in Pécs, Hungary, has switched from coal to gas and biomass. • One boiler was converted into biomass-fired unit and another for gas firing. As a result, emission levels have fallen and are now within new stricter limits

  15. Business Take advantage of the leading Finnish energy cluster Effective heat recovery • Heat recovery is a significant source of energy and an excellent opportunity to combine savings with environmental benefits. Up to 90 percent of the heat in the exhaust air can be recovered to heat supply air. • The heat recovery system of the printing machine has paid for itself five times over in just nine years of operation.

  16. Business Take advantage of the leading Finnish energy cluster Replacing oil with wood gas in heating • Fully automated standalone wood gasifiers can be used to replace oil in industries where heat is required either for production or heating. • The gas is produced from wood chips or pellets and burned in existing heat boilers. Heating costs are reduced immediately, and the environment benefits from CO2-free fuels.

  17. Business Take advantage of the leading Finnish energy cluster Power quality saves money and environment High voltage capacitors and compensation systems to • reduce power consumption • avoid oversized power systems • Eliminate disturbancies
