Polar Bear Conservation Elizabeth Mugleston and Cameron Kidd Humanities 1100 Period 6 March 15, 2012
The Problem • Polar bears are • in danger of losing their habitat • Their way of life • Migration to warmer climates • Climate change
The Claim • We need way to keep polar bear population up but keep in mind the respects of each culture whom hunts these animals
Food Chain Control • Keeps the food chain in the Arctic under control. • Keeps populations of seals and fish down • Keeps killer whale population down • They leave carcass for other animals
The Indiginous People and the Polar Bear • Respected by indigenous communities in the arctic • Live in harmony with polar bear. • Very few deaths
The Symbol of the Arctic • For most of us when we think of the north pole we think of the polar bear • It is also the symbol for coca cola
Health Population • Healthy population at present • Money is given when trophies are imported • Helps fund conservation
Natural Reasons • There are natural reasons we do not know of • It is not always possible for us to save everything • We are also wrong about what it “causing it” • A study showed sea ice is increasing • Studies have shown hybridization of grizzlies is related to population decrease
Darwinism • Extinction is part of nature • This follows Darwin’s Theory • We should let nature run it’s course like the dinosaurs
Our Position • Keep polar bear hunting down to the natives and watch how much fuel we are emitting.
The Solution • Find and fix the problem creating polar bear population decrease. • Look at the ecosystem they are in • Cutting down on fuel emissions • Watch for other signs from nature
