As a personal injury and insurance claim attorney in the Denver metro area, one of the common issues that arise in many cases where injured parties do not seek counsel, are “gaps” in treatment. Gaps in treatment are often the result of:
no health insurance coveragemanaged medical carelack of follow-through with medical treatment
For those who do not have health insurance, there are a variety of services/companies that will finance your medical treatment. These services will pay your doctor a reduced rate for his/her services, take a lien on your case, and will wait until the case settles to be paid back.
For many people, this is a terrific option. Managed medical care can sometimes be problematic for folks due to the underlying nature of managed care. It may take several months of conservative treatment before your primary care physician will refer you to a specialist and then several more months before an MRI will be ordered.
Oftentimes, having counsel who understands the underlying medical issues that will cause an MRI to be requested/ordered helps. Even if an attorney explains to you how to articulate your medical issues/concerns to your doctor, understanding your underlying condition is important.
Finally, I often come across injured accident victims who simply don’t have or can’t make the time to seek medical treatment. They have financial commitments that prohibit them from missing or taking time off work, or they have children they need to attend to.
In these cases, having counsel that understands your situation and who will impress upon you the importance of consistent follow-through is crucial not only to your your recovery, but to your pending injury claim.
