Introduction • From 2008 new permanent teachers and the relevant head teacher will develop an individual learning plan for the first two years of employment. • The learning plans will guide the support provided by Institutes in relation to training and mentoring experiences.   3. Aim • The aim of the learning plan is to develop a teacher centred, flexible continuous improvement model of professional development for all new permanent teachers. • The learning plans will guide the support provided by Institutes.

  4. Principles • The learning plan is to be to be mutually negotiated and agreed between the new permanent teacher and the head teacher. • There is to be a clear relationship between the professional development needs of the new permanent teacher and Institute strategic directions and priorities. • The learning plan is to be outcomes focused.

  5. Individual Learning Plan • Developed in the first month of service • For the first two years of employment • For all new permanent teachers • Temporary teachers may be included if they wish • Developed in consultation with the Head Teacher • Guide the support provided by Institutes in relation to training and mentoring experiences

  6. Professional Development • All new permanent teachers will have two hours professional development per week for the first two years of employment. • This is to assist with the development and implementation of the Individual Learning Plan.

  7. 1st Year Semester 1 1st year beginning Semester 2 2nd year beginning Semester 1 2nd year end Semester 2 Individual Learning Plan Developed by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Individual Learning Plan reviewed by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Individual Learning Plan reviewed by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Completed Individual Learning Plan reviewed by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Individual Learning Plan approved by Faculty Director Individual Learning Plan Changes approved by Faculty Director Individual Learning Plan Changes approved by Faculty Director Completed Individual Learning Plan Changes approved by Faculty Director Individual Learning Plan implemented by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Individual Learning Plan implemented by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Individual Learning Plan implemented by teacher in consultation with Head Teacher Completed Individual Learning Plan placed on teachers personal file

  8. Components of the ILP • Development Needs • professional practice areas to be developed. • Development Strategies • strategies to achieve development • Review and Feedback • ongoing consultation with Head Teacher.

  9. Comments and feedback • In consultation with your head teacher teachers will need to determine a time frame that includes opportunities to review the Individual Learning Plan. • This provides opportunity to reflect and make adjustments to the plan. • Over the two year period it is important to seek feedback from the Head Teacher to review progress.

  10. Activity • Work in pairs. • Use the Individual Learning Plan and Framework and identify areas that you need to develop. • Write an Individual Learning Plan based on your identified areas that you will need to develop.
