James Ohio Pattie By: Brendan and Taylor
James’ Journey • James Ohio Pattie left his hometown of Kentucky in 1824, heading West. He traveled with his father, both of them being fur trappers. They caught mostly beaver fur along the Gila and San Pedro rivers hoping to become rich…. But he was not very successful. They fought many Native Americans and kept traveling right along.
James’ Life • James was probably born in 1804 and died of cholera epidemic. He was one of very few people who wrote books about their lives back then. He ran a gold mine during his journey and even had to eat his dogs and one of his horses! He created a powerful medicine and vaccinated nearly 22,000 Mexicans and Native Americans .
