  1. THE TECHNOLOGY OF OPTO SENSORS At NIST, Berhampur Under the guidance of Dr. Partha S.MALLICK Submitted by Manoj Kumar Behera EC200117217

  2. Definition -: Opto-electronic sensors are the solid state devices used to detect which effect light beams either interrupting the beam or reflecting the beam back to its source. Principle of Operation-: Opto-electronic sensors make use of the physical properties of light sensitive materials. sensors change their electrical features based upon the intensity of light striking the receiver. Introduction

  3. Types of Opto-Electronic Sensors • Through beam Opto-electronic sensors • Retro-Reflective type sensors • Diffuse type sensors • Fiber optic type sensors

  4. FEATURES OF OPTICAL FIBER SENSOR • Optical fiber can also be used in applications such as sensing and measurement besides communication. • Fibers have been incorporated into optical systems to detect or measure a wide range of quantities including temperature, pressure, acoustic signals, vibration, rotation, strain, electric current, magnetic fields, fluid flow rate, gas concentration and even X-ray.

  5. extrinsic sensors. Sensors in which the measurand acts upon light outside the fiber intrinsic sensors. If the light remains guided within the fiber in the measurement volume CLASSIFICATION OF OPTICAL FIBER SENSORS

  6. extrinsic sensors A force sensor based on bending induced intensity losses

  7. Intrinsic sensors a simple fiber optic displacement sensor

  8. MULTIMODE FIBER SENSORS • Intensity Modulated Sensor • Wavelength Modulated Sensors Example of Multimode Fiber Sensors -: • Temperature Measurement • Pressure Measurement

  9. OPERATION OF OPTO-ELECTRONIC SENSOR • Tracking Function Compensates For Contamination • Opto-Electronic Sensor Controls Bottle Production

  10. Through-Beam Switches Retro-Reflective Switches Diffuse Switches fiber optic Switches SCAN OPTO-ELECTRONIC SENSOR

  11. Through-Beam Switches

  12. Retro-Reflective Switches

  13. Diffuse Switches

  14. New Opto-Electronic Sensor, Which Can Detect smoke Optoelectronic Sensor System for Guidance in Docking RECENT DEVELOPMENT

  15. Opto-Sensors are quite simple for most applications, and not only communicate with programmable controls, but can increase product quality and manufacturing speed, as well as reduce size and costs. Thus opto-sensors are going to play a growing and critical role in the modernized industry. CONCLUSION
