Prevention Needs Assessment Survey – 2013 The Prevention Needs Assessment Survey (PNA) was conducted in the fall of 2013. All six school districts (Attica, Letchworth, Perry, Warsaw, Wyoming, and Yorkshire-Pioneer) administered the surveys to students in grades 7-12. Overall 2,551 Wyoming County students participated in the student survey. Data was evaluated by outside consultant, Bach-Harrison. Note: Wyoming County schools have administered seven rounds of Prevention Needs Assessment Surveys for the years 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2013.
Note: Alcohol 30 Day Use rate towers over all other substance rates. Prescription medication abuse rates have become more prevalent in 2009.
Note: Overall the 30 Day prevalence rates for alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana have decreased since the year 2000.
The majority of Wyoming County students are making healthy decisions not use drugs - including alcohol. Current user rates are down for cigarettes, and have leveled off for alcohol and marijuana use. The greatest gains in reducing use have been through parent and peer disapproval. Perceived Risk of Drug Use is an increasing negative trend. Perception of harm has leveled off for alcohol and decreased for tobacco and marijuana.
