  2. What is SES? • Supplemental Education Services • Free Tutoring • Helps your child improve his/hour academic performance

  3. Is my child eligible? Generally, your child is eligible for SES if he/she: • receives free or reduced-price lunch • and attends a school that is in its first year or higher of “school improvement.”

  4. Picking a provider: Ask the following questions? • Who is the local contact person: • Gwendolyn Longmire, Ph.D. • gwendolyn.longmire@zacharyschools.org • Contact this person first with questions or concerns about the services of the provider you choose.

  5. How often and how long will my child receive tutoring? • This can vary, from everyday to a few times a week. • Make sure you know how many sessions the provider will offer, and how long those sessions will continue.

  6. When does the provider offer services? • Anytime outside of the regular day. • After school is the most common time for SES to be offered. • Can take place before school, on weekends, etc. • Offered during times convenient for the family so your child can attend regularly.

  7. Where does the provider offer services? • Schools • Public Libraries • Provider Offices • Family Homes • Community Centers

  8. What type of instruction is provided? • Hands on tutoring by trained instructors • Internet-based instruction accessed through a computer at home, in a school, or a community center. • Make sure you and your child are comfortable with the location.

  9. Will transportation be provided? • If your child will need transportation to the tutoring sessions, ask the provider whether transportation will be offered. • If no transportation will be offered, it is your responsibility to get your child to and from tutoring sessions.

  10. What is the provider's track record in raising student achievement? • To get on the state list, providers must be able to demonstrate that they have a track record of raising student achievement in academic areas, such as reading and math • Be sure to find out whether the provider has a successful track record of working with students whose needs are similar to your child’s needs.

  11. Providers for the Zachary Community School District • Focus 1st Tutoring • Project Education Me Learning Center, LLC. • ClubZ! In-Home Tutoring Services, Inc.

  12. Who will be instructing my child?Ask about the backgrounds and qualifications of staff that will be working with your child. • Do they have experience teaching reading or math? • Do they have experience working with children who were struggling in school? • SES providers are not required to hire certified teachers. • *However, you should make sure you are confident that each instructor’s level of experience and knowledge has prepared him or her to help your child improve academically.

  13. Application and Brochures • Applications are available for all parents. • Brochures about providers are available as well.
