Heritage and Validation Approach Dr. Clarence M. Korendyke EIS US Project Scientist Naval Research Laboratory 202-767-3144 e-mail: koren@cyclops.nrl.navy.mil
EIS Component and Design Heritage • Scan Mirror Design: SUMER/LASCO • Motor Actuators: Distributed List Includes HST and UVCS • Shutter Design/Actuators: MDI, TRACE, SXI • PZT: Flight Heritage on LASCO Fabry-Perot and M1 Tilt Mechanism • Bearings and Slides: HRTS and SUMER • Optical Design Heritage: EIT, TRACE, CDS, SUMER and SERTS
End to End Test • Focus and Image Quality Testing of the Telescope Will Be Conducted in the Visible Using a Collimator and Slit Plane Imaging System • This Test Will Follow the Procedures Successfully Implemented in the AS&E and HRTS Rocket Programs • Spectrometer Focus and Image Quality and Spectral Line Profile Testing Will Occur at EUV Wavelengths Using a Modified Supplier’s Collimator • End-to-End Image Quality Test Will Be Conducted With the NRL’s Collimator • End-to-end Calibration Scans of the Entrance Aperture With a Standard Source at RAL Will Be Conducted • This Test Will Follow the Standard Procedures Developed for CDS and SERTS • Results of This Test Will Be Used to Correct the Instrument Response Profile in Absolute Magnitude • Visible Rejection Test With a Heliostat or Appropriate Simulated Solar Source Will Be Conducted
