Whether due to limited access to and or the unavailability of nutritious food, students are coming to school hungry. • 80% of LAUSD students are eligible for free/reduced breakfast, yet only 29% participated in the program before BIC • Hunger impairs students development and achievement Eating a nutritious breakfast also helps children perform better on standardized tests, show improved cognitive functions, attention, and memory and has a positive effect on overall nutrition.
