COURSE OBJECTIVES: • STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: • MAKE DECISIONS THAT ENHANCE HEALTH • SET GOALS FOR PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH • ACCESS VALID INFORMATION AND USE THAT INFORMATION TO ENHANCE HEALTH • INVESTIGATE WAYS IN WHICH PEERS, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN WORK TOGETHER TO BUILD SAFE AND HEALTHY COMMUNITIES.

  25. DRIVER EDUCATION INSTRUCTORS: Heidi Smith • A nine week classroom study (36 hours) of instruction including driving skills, safety and SOL standards.

New Law 2010Partner’s for Safe Teen Driving • Student must attend with his/her parent or guardian • Attendance for the full 90-minute presentation is required • Those arriving late Will Not be admitted • Those leaving early Will Not receive a Certificate of Attendance or DEC-1 card. • Proper completion of a Registration form is required at the conclusion of the 90-minute presentation. • Any questions or concerns please email. • hesmith@fcps.edu

  28. Behind the Wheel • The state requires 14 hours of BTW instruction. 7 days/ 2 hours per day. • You must have completed at least 10 hours of classroom time before you will be allowed to start your BTW class through FCPS.

Licensing requirements for 16 and 17 year olds • 16 years and 3 months • Learners permit-9 months • Classroom driver education—36 hours • BTW-14 hours and pass the DMV approved road test • 45 hour log (15 hours after sunset) • Signed parent permission form on TDL-180-Day Driver’s License along with their driver’s license number or DMV- issued ID card number. • Parent/Guardian signature on the PPF-07 certifying proof of proper insurance.

  32. Physical Education Requirements • Freshmen are required to complete three quarters of activity and one quarter of Health Education. • Sophomores are required to complete two quarters of activity, one quarter of Health (Family Life Education), and one quarter of Driver Education. Physical Education Objectives: • To analyze movement concepts and principles to enhance motor skills acquisition and performance. • To help each student improve his/her physical fitness through a variety of fitness and conditioning activities. • To assist in the development of cooperation, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Student Responsibilities while in Physical Education: • Be on time for every class. • Wear the appropriate uniform. • Be an active participant in all activities. • Be attentive and respectful during class. • Make up all missed classes (excused) through eighth period activities. (after three blocks). • Adhere to the Thomas Jefferson Honor Code. Non Dress/Non Participation: • A note from a parent or guardian is required to excuse a student from any class participation. The note must be brought each day with the reason for non participation. If a student is to be excused more than three days in succession, a doctor’s note is required. The note should state which activities the student can and cannot participate in. If a student becomes ill at school, he/she should notify the teacher and a clinic pass will be issued.

  35. Locks and Lockers: Each student is required to purchase a combination lock to use on their assigned locker. Students should lock up all belongings during class. Do not bring valuables into the locker room! KEY LOCKS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE!!
