Understanding numbers • Number positions to the left of the 1’s column are always 10 times larger. Let’s Practise • If my house sold for $6 495. • That is six thousand four hundred and ninety-five dollars. • What would this look like on a place value chart?
Try your own! • It is your turn now to complete two place value numbers to demonstrate your understanding. Your task: • 1. Write the number. • 2. Represent it on the table. • 3. Write it in a sentence. • 4. Write the number in words. It will look something like this:
Example: • 1. My number is 7 324 • 2. • 3. My family won the lottery last week and the winning prize was $7 324. • 4. Seven thousand, three hundred and twenty-four.
