Rationale The scheme was set up as part of our strategy to reduce Teenage Pregnancy and STI rates, and improve the Sexual Health of our young people.
The C Card project originated in Lothian,Scotland in 1989. Developed further in Newcastle & North Tyneside in 1999 We launched the scheme in Harlow in 2002 and EF in 2004. Essex followed in 2005
Young People We consulted with young people in the early stages of the project on key features such as: The design of the cards The outlet venues The advertising campaign The types of condoms they wanted.
Assessors To begin, we had just one Nurse who could issue C Cards. Currently we have trained 53 Assessors across the two PCT’s and aim to have at least one in every GP Practice.
