  2. Definition for Prepositions • A preposition is a word that gives information such as: 1) direction or movement 2) time 3) place or location

  3. Direction & Movement Prepositions against, along, down from, into, off, on, onto, out of, toward, up, upon Example: I am putting on warmer clothes.

  4. Time Prepositions after, before, by, during, from, on, past, since, through, to, until, upon Example: We will meet during our lunch hour.

  5. Place or Location Prepositions above, behind, below, beside, between, by, in, inside, near, on, over, through Example: I am near the vegetable stand.

  6. Prepositional Phrase Prepositional phrases are used in sentences to describe a relationship between prepositions and their objects. They begin with a preposition and end with a pronoun or noun. OR A prepositional phrase is a preposition combining with a noun or pronoun to show location, time, or movement. Examples: 1. I am near her. (near is the preposition & her is the pronoun) 2. We are looking through the window. (through is the preposition & window is the object of through)
