A Community HCT model for Integrated HIV and TB testing in Cape Town, South Africa. Presented by: Sue-Ann Meehan 20 July 2011
Background Why: High dual burden of disease What: Increase access to HCT, early detection of TB, access to care How: Community non-medical HCT sites
Results/Conclusions for HIV • 34 287 clients accessed, 47% males, 95% tested • 9% positive screening test (8% outreach, 15% site) • Outreach accesses “well” population • Outreach challenge: access to care
Results/Conclusions for TB • 100% clients had symptom screen for TB • 11% symptomatic (10% outreach, 17% sites) • 142 clients early TB diagnosis, treatment
Conclusion • Necessity for integrated HCT community model • Outreach & Site components work together • Reach populations that don’t usually access HCT • Early TB detection • Access to care
