  4. My task • Spent last few years running the recruitment function for CIB SA, incl. grad programmes • 2 year secondment to London: • To establish a graduate employment brand internationally • Develop and enhance existing and new graduate programmes

  5. Eyes wide shut!! • Diversity of the industry including employers and universities • Access to resources • Cultural challenges and understanding the jargon

  6. Moving forward • Focus on the UK • Buy in for the grad programme: • Internally • Externally • Understanding higher education • Review of the graduate profile and selection processes • A budget for an ad agency

  7. What could I bring to the party? • Established support networks • In-depth understanding of Standard Bank’s culture, values and strategy • Had assisted in shaping the early grad programmes in the UK • Experience running grad programmes and selection processes • Passion for graduate programmes • My South African personality

  8. The attraction strategy • 4 Challenges: • Standing out in the crowd • Which universities? • Running an efficient selection process • Maintaining the human touch of our selection process

  9. What happened? • Financial Armageddon vs. brilliant campaign! • Award nominations • 100% Offer acceptance

  10. Second time around • New programmes • Same campaign used to drive our message • Further penetration at universities • China came knocking at my door • More applications than ever • Increase buy in from business • The best part!

  11. Seeing into the future! • Global attraction and selection processes • Cultural and language challenges • Outsourcing • Building a team • Diversity • Alignment with Standard Bank’s brand repositioning • Keeping the human touch!
