Definitions • Hypothesis- An educated guess to a scientific problem. • I.V.- The variable that changes in an experiment. • D.V.- The variable that is being tested or measured in an experiment.
Definitions • Control Group- The group in an experiment that is treated normally. EX: Giving a plant water versus giving a plant Dr. Pepper. • Experimental group- The group in an experiment that is being experimented on. Ex: Giving a plant Dr. Pepper versus giving it water.
Definitions • Constant- Things in an experiment that remains the same between the control group and experimental group. • Control- Factors in an experiment that the Independent Variable compares to.
Scenario 1 • Title: Answers can vary; The effects of Starbucks Coffee on Cancer Tumors. • Hypothesis: Starbucks Coffee does or does not reduce the size of cancer tumors. • I.V.- Starbucks Coffee • D.V.- Size of the Tumor • Constants: Amount of days(6 Months) , X-ray
Scenario 2 • Title: The effects of Breakfast on Thinking Ability • Hypothesis: Breakfast does and does not play an important role in one’s ability to think. • I.V.- Not having breakfast • D.V.- How well you are able to process information (thinking ability). • Constants- SAT-10, Same Instructor.
