Why should we manage our energy?? • Is it just financial? • Save money • better bottom line • Help the environment • get some green credentials • help business be more sustainable in volatile times • Meet relevant legislation

Energy Bills Billing - do you see them? - do you understand them? Meters - where are they? - are they read? “If you cant measure it you cant manage it efficiently”
Where do we start?? What are we currently doing? What can we do? Who is going to do it? Who is going to be responsible for it?
Waste • LANDFILL - How much?? • RECYCLE – How much ?? • 2005 LANDFILL • 124 BEDROOM HOTEL • 180 tonne per annum?? WHAT CAN WE DO??

Results of Recycling Project 2005 Landfill costs £345 per week 124 bed hotel - Turnover 4.1k 2007 Landfill costs £ 290 per week 179 bed Resort & Spa – Turnover 7.9k We where beginning to do something right Achieved green tourism pilot scheme award

What else can we do continued... • Look at bills • Do we know what we are using ? • Do we know what we are using most of?? Slieve Donard Resort and Spa energy bill is £_________?? Is this good or bad ??? • What should it be --- 5 % -6% - 7% of turnover What is our biggest bill?
Green Team • Water flow • sinks/baths/showers/urinals • 9 litres – 26 litres • Criteria 9 litres per minute • How do we achieve this? • Guest experience • Electricity • React lighting – back of house, stores, public toilets, staff rooms, boiler house/plant rooms • Equipment – green team to look at largest energy users in their areas
Green team continued... • E.G. – Does the hot plate for breakfast need turned on at 6.30AM • What time are kitchen appliances turned on at? • Are bar fridges/ glass washers turned off at night • Are function bar fridge's left on for days when no functions on?Could they be put on timers? • Are vacant bedroom lights off that don’t have key card machines? • Is all our external lighting looked at seasonally? Are they on timers? • Air conditioning??

Food Waste We send no food to Landfill!!! Our food waste is 100% recycled!

Conclusions contd Turn down boilers by 1% = 8% bill Turn down hotplates Look at lighting – react /hotplates kitchens / fridges timers /bars timers/outside Insulation/draught excluders
Conclusions contd Water - showers/aerators/dripping taps/urinals Waste -- what do you do? Gas – kitchens/ gas fires??
And finally... Target the Green team to reduce group energy consumption By December 2011 by ............ 10% in usage If no price rises that equates to £200,000 savings
