  3. Occupations and Careers Handbook for UAE Nationals From a range of national activity indicators, twelve (12) industry sectors were identified. About 20,000 UAE nationals enter the job market every year (Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP). The UAE logistics sector is expected to grow by 4% in 2016, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.7% between 2015 and 2020. Logistics and transport in the emirate of Abu Dhabi • The transportation activity is considered one of the catalyst activities of economic development in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. • New transport means are created to keep pace with economic and urban development taking place in the emirate. • The existing infrastructure is continuously upgraded to enhance connections between the emirate’s geographical regions and with global markets.

Logistics and transport New infrastructure projects in the emirate of Abu Dhabi • On October 16, 2016, the Abu Dhabi Executive Council approved nearly Dh6 billion worth of development projects in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. These include: • a Dh1bn construction package for a business district project in MadinatZayed, originally known as Abu Dhabi’s Capital District, with a ‘multi-modal’ public transport system • a Dh687 million residential project in Al Hayer, near Al Ain, including new roads • The Al Zahiyah infrastructure project that includes redesigning Al Firdous and 10th streets • Extensive improvements to roads and other infrastructure Stalled transport projects in Abu Dhabi • 131-kilometre Abu Dhabi metro • Light rail system

Logistics and transport Public transport buses Shipping and sea transport Metro • Currently, 79 trains serve the Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines. • Preliminary work on the Route 2020 metro extension has begun. 11.8km of the route will be elevated, while 3.2km will be underground, to be served by 15 new trains for the expo, while 35 additional trains will be procured to serve the existing metro routes.

  13. The annual growth rate of compensation of employees at current prices in ‘Transport and storage’ in 2015 was 6.7%. The average wage per employee in 2013 in the ‘Transport and storage’ activity was AED 112,000.
