Background of the Dehko Programme • Prepared by the diabetes experts, health care professionals and people with diabetes 1998-1999 • Approved in January 2000 as the National Diabetes Programme for Finland for 2000-2010 • 15 objectives • 25 action recommendations, of which 10 are key actions • Finnish Diabetes Association as initiator, coordinator and responsible for the national sub-projects
Financing • Dehko 2000-2010: Governmental resources ( Finnish Slott Machine Association since 1999), in addition corporate partners- in total nearly 500 000 euros per year • FIN-D2D 2003-2007: Public health resourses / Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Finnish Slott Machine Association, Hospital Districts (5), National Public Health Institute, FDA – in total 1,6 million euros per year
Follow-up and Assessment • By 2004 five external assessments of Dehko, next will be done in 2006 • Over 40 publications: reports on surveys related to Dehko targits, reports on local, regional and national solutions, Dehko quality criteria, quality meters for diabetes care etc etc • Annual Dehko symposia for the key players ( for nearly 200) • National Dehko Days ( 2003, 2006, 2008, 2010) • Dehko Awards for the best solutions in the health care
Results In the ten-year action programme the result assessment is based on: • Reaching the set 15 objectives • Implementing all 25 action recommendations • Positive health outcomes both in care and prevention of diabetes • Changing the direction of the ship permanently
