3. Habitat Areas • Found primarily in India and Bangladesh. • They are also found in parts of Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and southern Tibet. • Tigers hide in brush and trees and sometimes even in the snow.

4. Physical Characteristics • The largest of all the tiger species. • Average weight for males is 450 lb, and 308 lb for females. • The coat is yellow to light orange and the stripes are dark black. • A Bengal tigers roar can be heard from up to three miles away.

5. Population • The current population is estimated at 1300 and 1500. • Of the eight sub species alive, three are now extinct. • We have also lost 90% of all wild tigers. • This is mostly due to habitat loss, and poaching.

6. Poaching • This is the known number of tigers killed by poaching in those years. • There is big money for the coat and other parts.

7. Human Attacks • Tigers do not like the presence of humans. • If a mother is separated from her cubs because of a human there's a good chance for attack. • When tigers get old they sometimes turn to man eaters because their to week to hunt. • They also will if there is not enough food for them in their habitat.

8. Behaviour • Tigers are solitary predators as apposed to lions. This is the case because males play no role in raising the offspring. • They mark their territory by spraying urine on a branch to leave scent. • A males territory is larger than the females territory.

9. Reproduction • Mating can occur any time, but more often between November and April. • Usually 2 to 5 cubs are born at a time. • The mother feeds them milk for 6-8 weeks and then the cubs start to eat meat. • The cubs depend on their mother for the first 18 months and then are on their own.

10. Hunting • They eat a variety of animals including deer, wild boars, buffalo, antelope. Also been known to eat monkeys and birds. • Their have been recorded cases of tigers killing bull elephants', and crockodiles.
