Things That Make You Go Hmmm! A question to ask while we explore the chapter is: • How does a computer work?
Software Vs. Hardware • According to the chapter, the difference between hardware vs. software is that software is set instructions or programs for a given task. For example, Microsoft Word is a software that provide the user a means of entering text or data. • Hardware is all the physical components that are associated with the equipment.

Examples of Output Devices • Computer Monitor Printer
Storage • Storage holds data and programs so it does not have to be repeatedly reentered. • According to the chapter, all computers have a hard disk drive to store info. • However, addition external devices have been developed to store information as well.
Some Examples • Floppy Disk USB Flash-drive • CD/DVD Removable hard-drive
Memory • Memory is pretty much the same as storage. • The difference is that memory is short-term storage space only. That means, only temporary task can be completed or accessed.
The Meat & Potatoes By understanding the basic functions of a computer, you can build or develop more applications to the computer for individual or group use.
