Today Who do you really think you are? (Romans 12:3-8) • Not what you want other people to think you are. • Not what you think other people think you are. In the mirror of your soul, what do you see? Who are you?
We want… To look good for others To find significance, value and acceptance
Our desperate longing for approval drives us… To seek To look To act To be What others want!
You Need to Understand If you don’t get a sober self-assessment and understand who you really are, you will never fulfill God’s call that He has for you!
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’sworkmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” NIV
Understand This… Parents Background Physical DNA Hardships Birth Order ALL are used by a sovereign God to prepare you for your divine assignment.
Ask Yourself These Things • What were the values I was taught? • What were the beliefs I was shown? • Who were my heroes?
He wants to use it ALL for good! He is in control! It was true of Moses. And it’s true of you and me!
Understand how we got to where we are now… In Our Self Evaluation Also take a good look at how we view ourselves.
Moses’ View of Himself • Was too high early in life • Power • Prestige • Abilities • Education • Background • He tried to do God’s will his own way, in his own energy, and in his own power.
Moses’ Excuses At The Burning Bush – Exodus 3 • I’m a nobody. • God Answers: “I’ll be with you.” • I’m not smart enough. • God Answers: “I have made a path for you, they will believe you.” • I’m not credible. • God Answers: “All you need to do is to trust me and get your focus off of yourself.” • I’m not a very good speaker. • God Answers: “I’ve gifted you for this job.”
Amazing example of God’s mercy and grace given to a man! Moses is as reluctant as he can be and yet God’s got his hand on him.
Romans 12:3a “For by the gracegiven (to) me…” NIV
Romans 12:3b “…think of yourself with sober judgment in accordance with the measure of the faith that God has given you.” NIV
How do we think soberly about ourselves? • By making faith the measure of our mind • By making faith the measure of our heart • By making faith the measure of our life Faith is looking to Christ to measure, and guide our every step.
The Key to An Honest & Accurate Picture of Who We Are… Is knowing the foundation of our self-worth – which is our identityinChrist
Apart from Jesus we can do nothing that has eternal value… But in Him we are precious and capable of service for the Kingdom of God!!
We need to see our true value in God’seyes and walk as a child of God instead of a child of the world.
