Channel Arc Manche • Two main fields of action: • Recognition of the Channel area as a cross-border co-operation area • Integrated Maritime Policy and maritime strategies for sea basins • Two supporting projects: • Espace Manche Development Initiative (EMDI) – INTERREG NWE (2004 – 2008) • Channel Arc Manche Integrated Strategy (CAMIS) – INTERREG IVA (2009 – 2013)
Espace Manche DevelopmentInitiative - EMDI • Aim of the project: • Increasing and strengthening cross-Channel co-operation • Three main strands: • A Strategic Vision for the Channel area • Testing new avenues of co-operation • Regional Data Tool and Cross-Channel atlas
Strategic and co-operationorientations • Strengthening the cohesion of the Channel area • Taking advantage of and strengthening the territorial position of the Channel area in Europe • Contributing to safe navigation in the Channel area • Ensuring the sustainable development of the Channel area • Promoting integrated coastal zone management

Project’s strategy • Setting up the conditions for a concerted and sustainable development of the Channel area • Testing tools and organisations for a maritime governance • Federating initiatives at the scale of this maritime basin • Falling within the scope of European and national policies • Considering interactions with the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea regions

Transport • Cross-border transport framework : • Mapping transport investments that have implications on either side of the Channel area • To research passenger and logistics connections and routes • Profile the synergy of investment programs or strive to achieve better synergy • Lobby jointly for EU and National investment in landside and seaside connectivity
Maritime safety • Improving the capability of local authorities to develop joint initiatives • Identifying and drawing expertise • Awareness raising and organisation of local authorities • Lobbying to address the specific issues of the Channel area
Clusters - Innovation • Identification of cross-border cluster opportunities • 4 study themes: Marine Renewable Energy,Marine Environment Management, Marine Leisure Tourism, Sustainable Marine Operations • Cross-border cluster development • Consortium and first steps of project development
Vocational Training • Improving policies and mechanisms through co-operation: • Inventory and analysis of organisations and stakeholders • Inventory and analysis of projects • Thematic benchmarking activities • Practical activities
