  1. Digestive System • What is the name of the body system that breaks down food into nutrients (protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, water) for your body’s cells?

  2. Cells • They grow and divide. • They take in water & nutrients • They get rid of wastes • What are the smallest living structures in the human body?

  3. Involuntary • Which kind of muscles are being used when you digest food, breathe, or pump blood around your body? (voluntary or involuntary)

  4. Cardiac • Your body has 3 kinds of muscles: skeletal, smooth and cardiac. • What kind of muscle is the heart made of?

  5. Alveoli…lungs • Where do red blood cells pick up oxygen and drop off carbon dioxide?

  6. Bones • What body tissue makes red and white blood cells?

  7. Smooth Muscle • What kind of muscle (skeletal, cardiac, smooth) helps you breathe (diaphragm) and moves food through the digestive system?

  8. Large Intestine • Waste from the food you eat move through this musculartube • Water is squeezed from the wastes and then recycled back into your body.

  9. Blood Cells • What kind of cells do bones make?

  10. Trachea • The epiglottis is a flap that covers the opening of this tube. • Every time you inhale, air travels through this tube into your lungs.

  11. White Blood Cells • What kind of blood cells fight pathogens?

  12. Skeletal System • This system supports your body. • It makes blood cells. • It protects vital organs (heart, lungs, brain)

  13. Muscular System • What body system moves your bones, your body parts? • This system helps you breathe (diaphragm) • It helps you digest food too.

  14. Small Intestine • This digestive tube is lined with villi (they’re like sponges, they absorb the nutrients). • This digestive organ is where the red blood cells pick up the nutrients from the digested food.

  15. Respiratory System • Which system takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from your body?

  16. Diaphragm • This smooth muscle helps your lungs inhale and exhale.

  17. Voluntary • What kind of muscles are being used when you kick a ball, swim, or hold a pencil? (voluntary or involuntary)

  18. Alveoli • What is the name of the tiny air sacs that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide gases?

  19. Oxygen and Glucose • What are the two products of photosynthesis?

  20. Esophagus • Peristalsis moves food through this muscular tube. • This food tube is lined with smooth muscles

  21. Circulatory System • Which system moves blood around your body?

  22. Reproductive System • egg and sperm cells • This system creates more individuals, offspring.

  23. Excretory System • This system removes wastes from your body.

  24. Liver • This organ stores nutrients for your body. • Red blood cells pick up nutrients here when needed.

  25. Stomach • A muscular bag the mixes and mashes the food with acids.
