Step 2: Explore relationships between the sections. After you have reread your statements, compare the sections and identify the connections or relationships between each section. Look for… • Cause and effect patterns • Sequences of events • Steps that lead to something important.
Step 2 Questions • What are the relationships between each section? • Can you prove the relationships with specific details? • What are the relationships that link all of the sections? • Can you prove the relationships with specific details?
Step 3: Pinpoint the critical moments and ideas. • Examine the relationships that you have identified. Look for events, changes, or moments that create patterns and sequences that seem to have made a great impact. • Determine where the patterns and sequences lead. Identify what the author has revealed to the reader.
