  2. Brief History of School of Instrumentation University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) USIC-Level-I : 1978 USIC Level –II : 1990 School of Instrumentation : 1991 consisting of Teaching, Research and USIC Level –II

  3. Vision To develop globally competent professionals in the field of Instrumentation. To shape crude ideas into refined scientific/engineering approach. To fulfil the scientific and social needs of the nation. Mission To generate intellectual and socially responsible manpower. To develop curiosity and thirst of knowledge among students. To develop not only good scientists but also good human being. Sustained academic excellence.

  4. Activity : • Teaching Program started from 1992 as • 3 Semester M.S. (Instrumentation) • 2. Conversion of M.S. (Instrumentation) to four • semesters M. Tech. (Instrumentation) in 1998 • by AICTE, New Delhi. • 3. Induction of M.Sc. (Instrumentation) • program in 2004. • 4. Fulfil the mandate of USIC Level-II INTAKE M. Tech. Program: 18 students per year M.Sc. : 30 students per year

  5. Teaching-Learning and Evaluation Regular updation of the Syllabus of M.Tech. (Instrumentation) Program In 2012: We modified and introduced advance topics in IS703-Control System Engineering, IS711-Industrial Transducer and in IS709 Power Electronics subjects. In 2013: We modified the complete syllabus and introduced new courses IS 703 Process Control and Instrumentation IS704 Computer Control and SCADA systems IS707 Embedded System Design-I IS708 Embedded System Design-II We have modified most of the courses and introduced new books in the syllabus. We regularly modified the laboratory courses in IS719 and IS720.

Prof. Ratnesh Gupta 2. Prof. A.L. Sharma, Retired on 31st July 2013 Presently 04 posts are vacant (1 P+1 Assoc. Prof. + 2 Asstt. Prof. ) have been advertised.

  10. Six Teaching Laboratories: ARDUINO Boards are also available for the students to interface with PC using LABVIEW Software. Process Control Equipment has been designed by the Students under Minor Project. Total Cost Rs. 35,000/- I market the cost of the equipment is approximately Rs. 3,00,000/-

  12. School spent About Rs. 8,00,000/- for these laboratories from XIth Five Year Plant Grant

  13. Research Laboratories:

  14. X-ray Reflectivity of Cr film deposited on Si (Measurement done at UGC DAE CSR, Indore) Funded by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Dept. of Atomic Energy, Mumbai and Xith Five Year Grant.

  15. Measurements done at National Synchrotron Radiation Facility (INDUS-I and INDUS-II), RRCAT, Indore. Samples have been prepared by laser treatment in our lab.

  16. Technology have been developed by RRCAT, Indore, the cost of Imported equipment is Rs. 25 Lacs.

  17. Our strength is to optimum use of the Equipments and the National Facility available for the Researchers. Versatile use of equipments enables us to apply creative ideas into relevant research.

Facilities: • HMT Lathe Machine, • BatliboiShaper Machine, • HMT Milling Machine, • Welding Equipments, • Radial drilling machine, • Power Saw, • Shearing Machine. • Carpentry Lathe, • Carpentry Saw Machine, • Carpentry Planner Machine, • Burners, • Lathe, • Optical Equipments, • Tube cutters Glass sealing components for Cryogenic equipment have been fabricated in our glass-blowing workshop.

  21. Awards: Prof. Ratnesh Gupta got ICTP TRIL ASSOCIATE fellow, from International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy (UNESCO University) from 2002-2009. Dr. Ashish Khandelwal (Ph.D. student) received K.S. Krishnan Research Award by Dept. of Atomic Energy, Mumbai and has been working in R.R. Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore as Scientist –D.

  23. Ph.D. Scholarship All Full time research scholars are getting scholarship from different sponsored research projects.

  24. Student Feedback System and actions on that : Collected in every semester and is available at the school. Score of every teacher teaching for the subjects (Including visiting Faculty) and the laboratory work have been above 80%.

BEST PRACTICES • Recognition of the talent and performance of the students by national research institutes such as IGCAR, Kalpakkam,, IUAC, New Delhi, CEERI Pilani, RRCAT, Indore. • Improvise the instrumental facility to meet specific needs. • Timely Submission of the Scientific Reports and Utilization Certificates to the Funding Agency. • Grooming of the students to handle the techno-economic challenges.

  29. Future Plans: New academic programmes: • M.Tech. in Nano-Science and Nano-Technology (proposal submitted to UGC XIIth Five Year Plan) Research Programmes:  Intensify the number of research collaborations with International and National Research Organizations and Industries. (submitted DST-DAAD Project)  To obtain more Research projects from funding agencies to develop the different facilities in the Research Laboratories.
