  2. Goals for Today… • Understand the registration process & timeline • Discuss sequence of courses for varying grade levels • Review process for Career & College Promise courses, NCVPS courses and special application courses

  3. Registration Process & Timeline • All students will complete the “Matchmaker” in Career Cruising to assist with course options based on interests. This is a career interest inventory students will take so that counselors can help them select courses to meet their interests/needs. • The registration window for RSSS is February 1-March 16. • CATS teachers have discussed and reviewed course options with all students in February. • Counselors will meet with all students in February and early March to finalize and discuss course options in Career Cruising.

  4. General Graduation Requirements • 4 English courses: English I, II, III & IV • 3 Sciences courses: Earth/Environmental Science, Biology and Physical Science or Chemistry • 4 History courses: World History, American History I and II, Civics and Economics OR World History, AP World Geography, AP US History, Civics and Economics. • 4 Math courses: Math I, II, III, + one more math beyond Math III or an approved CTE course as a math credit • Health and PE • 12 Electives

  5. Career & Technical Education (CTE) Courses = 4th Math Credit (students may only use these if they are not going to a 4-year school) • Accounting I • Principles of Business and Finance I • Personal Finance + Entrepreneurship • Interior Design • Masonry I + Masonry II

  6. Typical Grade 10 • English 2 or Honors English 2 • Biology or Chemistry (Honors) • American History I (Honors) or AP Human • Math II • Electives *** Can take up to 2 AP Classes

  7. Typical Grade 11 • English 3, Honors English 3 or AP English 3 • Physical Science, Chemistry or Science Elective • American History II (Honors) or AP US • Math III (Honors) • Electives

  8. Typical Grade 12 • English 4, Honors English 4 or AP English 4 • Civics (Honors) • Advanced Functions, Pre-Calculus or CTE Class that meets 4th math requirement • Electives

  9. New Courses… • Holocaust & Genocide • Honors Horticulture • Honors Cold War • Music Appreciation • Honors Career Management • Astronomy • Woodworking (formerly Cabinet Making)

  10. Career & College Promise Courses These are courses junior and senior students can take to receive college and high school credit. Some classes are offered at Rowan Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) on campus, and some are online. Students must have qualifying test scores and meet GPA requirements in order to be eligible for certain programs. Students should choose “Community/College Course” under the electives tab in Career Cruising. Once Career Cruising selections are finalized, counselors will meet with students to discuss selections and qualifications.

  11. NCVPS(North Carolina Virtual Public Schools) These are courses offered (typically to juniors and seniors) online through North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Students are eligible to sign up for courses that are not offered on campus at JCHS. (These courses have been extremely rigorous and demanding in the past.) Students should choose “NCVPS Courses” under the electives tab in Career Cruising and counselors will meet with them to discuss the selections.

  12. Courses Needing Special Applications • Courses requiring an application Special Release (Non-Reporting) Yearbook Media Performance (WCAT) Nursing Fundamentals Honors Band and Chorus require auditions Internship • Internships-Must have transportation
