Potential for T1S1 Review of ANSI Point Code Assignments Fred Gaechter IFAST Chairman +1 732 699 5500 fredgaechter@monmouth.com An SAIC Company
Chronology of Issue at IFAST • Iusacell previously introduced the issue • IFAST supported an ANSI solution • Agreed, in concept, to a US entity offering a contribution to T1S1 • No US entity willing to introduce issue to T1S1 • Recent conference call w/ Carlos Zamora and Telefonica de Espana • My dual role: IFAST Chairman and US SS7 Point Code Administrator • No unilateral solution as Administrator • Agreed to pursue as IFAST Chairman
Discussion with T1S1.3 Chairman • T1S1.3 responsible for oversight of ANSI Point Codes • Current T1S1.3 Chairman (Telcordia) not familiar with the issue • Concerns: • ITU “portability” paranoia • Potential exhaust of finite resource with undetermined demand • Who will be assigned how many resources? • Reality of reclamation? • Friendly, cooperative, non-committal discussion • Strong commitment to address the issue • T1S1.3 is contribution driven • T1S1 member entity contribution • Non-T1S1 member entity contribution
Potential Work Plan • Determine level of IFAST support • If supported, determine what entity will contribute to T1S1.3 • Member entity • Non-member entity • IFAST • Develop contribution and identify presenter(s) • Present contribution and answer questions/concerns • If positive response, assist T1S1.3 in revision of Point Code Assignment Guidelines
