Relevance, Impact and European Dimension (35 %) • Relevance: • EDL aims at enlarging accessible digital content of “The European Library” by 40-60 additional digital collections from 9 National Libraries • Impact & European Dimension: • EDL contributes directly to the i2010 digital libraries initiative • Exploitation & Dissemination • AQUARING (aiming to improve access to distributed digital content collections regarding the preservation of the aquatic environment and sustainable management of aquatic resources from IT, F, B, NL, LT) for which dissemination is coordinated by ECSITE (European Network for Science Centres and Museums) eContentplus 2006

Quality of the Technical Part of the Proposal (20 %) - continued Methodology & work plan CITER (aggregating history textbooks and other educational content for secondary education) presents an adequate methodology & work plan for achieving the objectives stated in the proposal. Resources and Management (20 %) • Consortium • eWater consortium includes geological surveys as both content providers and users as well as one GIS organisation interested in exploiting the data. • Resources • personnel, equipment & financial resources for eWater are clearly documented and matched to planned objectives and tasks. • Management • CITER presents a credible timing & structure of workflow and a sound management, communication & conflict resolution process. eContentplus 2006

Relevance, Impact and European Dimension (40 %) Relevance: • JEM will contribute to the coordination of content enrichment activities in the area of mathematics, to the maintenance of agreed standards and to the delivery of powerful synoptic high-quality user information and support pages, invoked in e-learning platforms operated by the partners. In 2006 thematic networks to be funded should have a wide scope. Impact and European Dimension: • Mathematics are considered the cornerstone of the skills base required to build the European knowledge society. JEM involves most major actors in e-learning mathematics and benefits from the experience of several international projects (some of which are still ongoing) eContentplus 2006

Quality of the technical part of the proposal (20 %) Problems & solutions • For the design and the production of high-quality digital content for mathematics, the expertise of professional mathematicians, software engineers, publishers, and learning theorists is required. JEM brings together experts involved in activities around the area of semantic markup for mathematics directly related to enhancing digital content. Methodology & work plan • The methodology is adequate as the different work packages are led by the most relevant partners and the time schedule and resources are reasonable. eContentplus 2006

Quality of the proposed Network and Management (40 %) Network • Since the founding members come from only 7 “old” EU Member States (FI– DE – IT – NL –PT – ES – UK) the 1st “common requirement” for thematic networks in 2006 would not be satisfied. • However, JEM is open to new members (key criterion for prioritizing requests: geographical coverage), and major stakeholders, combining the necessary complementary expertise, are involved. Coordinator • Coordinator has experience in managing an international network in the specific domain of work (mathematical content).
