  4. harness(V) • To control and use the force or strength of something to produce power or achieve something English mania is a turning point. Like the harnessing of electricity in our cities or the fall of the Berlin wall, English represents hope for a better future- a future where the world has a common language to solve its common problem.

  10. Do you agree with him. Why or Why not? • There are about 15 billion Chinese speakers; about 5 times as much as all native English speakers. China have become strong. Do you think if Chinese will take the place of English in the future? Why or why not? • If your mother language was an international language, would you go abroad to study language like you do now in Canada? • Do you think which language would have been an international language, if German, Italy and Japan had won the WW2? (Before the WW2 French was the international language.) • Do you think why Esperanto couldn’t become popular. Esperanto is an artificial language which was created in 1887 for the purpose of making a world second language. Its grammar is easier than English. A few people in Europe still use it. Some organizations state it as their official language.
