Open Lablinks from the utilities menu …then open the daybook
The daybook shows the results …but I don’t want to see all the results, just mine… …so I need to filter…
Daybook filter • Assigned to me • All GP’s • Not viewed by me • Show all • Click “Search” • Can do other things too! Once you have viewed a result it will disappear from the “not viewed by” list even if you haven’t annotated or actioned it – so annotate or action EVERY result
Daybook results Clicking on the bar at the top will sort the results by that field
First result… This result needs an annotation tag or an action tag
Annotation or action? • Annotation • Writes annotation to notes • No action required • Tell patient OK • Doctor discuss next appointment • Already actioned by doctor • Already actioned by nurse • What other annotations could we have? • Action • Somebody has to do something
Choosing an action • F12 to take an action • …then click one • Reception will take action • ONLY USE ACTIONS WHERE ACTION MUST BE TAKEN If it must be done today add URGENT
Post it – but where to? • The “Clinical” tab should say what was written on the form… • …which should be the current problem the result is posted to
F2 to post… …under that patient’s current problem
Dealing with the actions • Action tags are completed by receptionists mainly • Doctors or nurses can store actions here too if they wish (F10 or F11) • F6 requests “make appt dr” • F7 requests “make appt nurse” • F8 requests “dr phone pt” • F9 asks for paper notes – does anyone use this one nowadays? • Any other actions we could have?
Taking action • All results must have an annotation tag or an action tag • Annotated results are just posted to the notes • Action tags MUST be actioned according to the action required • Make sure that your action request is CLEAR for the receptionist • If you want to store results for action later, use ACTION BY DOCTOR then answer yourself – means you have to remember to go back and look!
What not to do • No annotation or action tag = no posting… • …So if you don’t look at your results you will get lots of hassle from receptionists (guaranteed) • Don’t fiddle with the config options (on pain of death) • Take care with the macros – make sure they have done what you meant them to do
Problems • Remembering to do it Set aside a special time each day – when would you have looked at the paper results? Brent has a flashy reminder system!
Problems • What if someone is on holiday? Each doctor will have to look at his assigned doctor’s results but only actioned or annotated results will be posted (but they will be available in the daybook) Only actioned or annotated results are posted – otherwise they just sit in the daybook Admin staff can post the results (docs can do it if they want) All actions and annotations are written in the notes
Problems • The result has been sent to the wrong doctor • …or should have been sent to the nurse
Problems • Taking responsibility The person that requests the test is the person that looks at the result – even if it is not your patient This includes nurses! The nurses are looking at the routine results except the diabetic annual review bloods
