SHOCK • Shock is the condition in which the circulatory system fails to circulate oxygen-rich blood to the body • Signs and Symptoms • Restlessness or irritability • Rapid and weak pulse • Rapid breathing • Pale, ashen, or bluish skin • Excessive thirst • Nausea and vomiting • Drowsiness or loss of consciousness

Heat and cold emergencies • Frostbite—condition when the body tissues become frozen • Symptoms • Change in skin color to gray • Body may feel numb • When warmth is restored, pain can be severe • Treatment • Warm the affected part of the body • Do NOT rub the area • Remove wet clothing • Bandage body with loose dressing

Heat and cold emergencies • Hypothermia-condition in which the internal body tissue becomes very low • Symptoms • Symptoms • Stiff muscles • Shivering • Cold skin • Dizziness • Slow breathing • Treatment • Remove any wet clothing • Warm gradually—do not use electric blankets • Seek medical help • Don’t give anything to drink

Heat and cold emergencies • Heat Stroke-Heatstroke—when the body loses its ability to cool itself by sweating because the victim has become dehydrated • Symptoms • Hot, dry skin • Higher than normal body temperature • Rapid pulse • Shallow breathing • Loss of consciousness • Care for heatstroke • Call 911 • Take to cool place • Do not give anything to drink if person is vomiting
