Proposition 19: Legalization of Marijuana Scott Mays Kyosuke Iwayama Sabrina Gowsell
Oaksterdam University Oaksterdam was founded by Richard Lee in 2007, and is a groundbreaking college, that focuses on teaching people the business side of growing marijuana. They focus on specific issues such as legal issues, politics, cooking, concentrates, and horticulture. The goal of Oaksterdam University is to further legitimize the cannabis industry and help people make a living through the business side of marijuana. Originally starting off as just a small classroom in downtown Oakland, and now has expanded to four different campuses in two different states. Space in class is limited and class registration is extremely competitive.
Richard Lee Richard Lee, the founder of Oaksterdam, who runs a medical marijuana coffee shop in downtown Oakland. He is a very dynamic political activist and is credited with almost single handedly getting proposition 19 onto California's ballots.
Effects of passing prop. 19 Richard Lee was recently interviewed by CNN on prop. 19 and his Oaksterdam University. He spoke of the revenue that could be generated from the legalization of personal marijuana, and how California could benefit from not only the taxes that would be generated from the legalization, but the other positive aspects that would come about due to the legalization. Lee compares the legalization of Marijuana Industry to the Alcohol Industry, and that is really is a legitimate business.
Facebook: Vote Yes on Prop 19 • Opinions • Links to other websites supporting marijuana. • Ex. California alcohol link • Argues that our society would be better with marijuana. • “Stoners” • Profile pictures • Repetitive
Facebook (cont.) • Some comments • Comparing number of deaths by alcohol per year. • Doesn’t give any real reasons why it should be leagalized.
Legalizationofmarijuana.com • Initial impression of being informative. • Different sections. • Many stats.
Legalizationofmarijuana.com • Non-credible sources. (ex. United States government…) • Unprofessional wordings. (ex. Cool Sites.) • Also non-working links.
Also had many logical fallacies. • An example is that, it said marijuana contains fewer chemicals than coffee, therefore it is not harmful. • However, this is an fallacy since, it is not the number of the chemicals that is harmful, it is the chemical itself that cause harm.
