LOCATION • Relative Location- Where a place is located in relation to another place. • Ex: Dairy Queen is down the hill from the high school. • Ex: Mrs. Horton’s room is in the front hall by the blue lockers.
PLACE • What is it like there? • Includes both physical AND human features of a place. • Ex: landscapes, climate, people, culture, and language.
Human-Environment Interaction • How do people relate to their physical environment? • People depend on the environment • People adapt to the environment • The impact of people on the environment
Human-Environment Interaction • Dependence: farming, logging, mining • Adaptation: housing, clothing • Impact: environmental problems: pollution, global warming, depleting natural resources
Region • How is a place similar to and different from other places? • Region-an area of the Earth’s surface with similar characteristics. • May be physical, political, economic or cultural features
