  2. Romans 8:29-30 • Those who love Him are the called • Those He foreknew • Those He predestined to be conformed to Christ’s image • Those He justified • Those He glorified

  3. Romans 8:31-39 • Terms used for those justified by God: us/we His elect • Romans 5:1-5 • The justified have peace with God (vs. 1) • They exult in hope of the glory of God (vs.2) • They exult in tribulations (vs.3) • They have His love and the Holy Spirit in their hearts (vs. 5)

Called • Kaleo – to call • Romans 1:1 Paul was called as an apostle • Romans 1:6 Paul includes the Gentiles in the called • Romans 1:7 Beloved of God, called as saints • Romans 8:28,30 Those who love God, are justified and called according to His purpose • Romans 9:11,24 God is the One who calls (1:16) • Romans 9:26 Called are the sons of the Living God • Romans 11:29 God’s call is irrevocable

Called • I Cor. 1:9 Corinthian church was mostly Gentile • Called into fellowship with Christ – salvation • I Thess. 2:12 God calls into His kingdom and glory, therefore live a life worthy of that calling • Matt. 22:1-14 Those called (Jews) did not come so the invitation went out to any the slaves found (Gentiles) • Few heard the call and responded. • The believer is to present the invitation; the result is up to God.

  6. Foreknowledge • Proginosko – to know. To perceive or recognize beforehand • Romans 8:28-30 Describes the justified – believers • Romans 11:2 God foreknew Israel: He has not rejected them • Acts 2:23 God used wicked men to fulfill His plan • I Peter 1:20 He was chosen before the creation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your sake • I Peter 1:1-2 God chose according to His foreknowledge

Predestination • Proorizo – to determine; to mark out beforehand • Romans 8:28-30 The called, foreknown and justified were also predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. • Eph. 1:3-6,11 God predestined us: In love In accordance with His pleasure In accordance with His will In grace Freely

Election/Chosen • Eklektos – to choose, select • Romans 8:33 “He will not charge His elect” • Romans 9:11 Jacob and Esau did nothing to deserve the choosing and the calling; it was God’s choice • Romans 11:5,7,28 Israel, a remnant, God’s chosen ones • Matt. 22:1-14 The gospel went out; few were chosen • Matt. 24:22,24,31 Many will try to mislead the elect • Jesus will gather His elect from one end of the heavens to the other.

Election/Chosen • John 15:16 Jesus chose the disciples, they didn’t choose Him • Believers are chosen to bear fruit • Col. 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. • Instead of being puffed up “because YOU are chosen, clothe yourself with…….”

  10. Election/Chosen • I Pet.1:1-2 Those chosen by God: • Strangers • Scattered • Chosen according to foreknowledge • Through the Holy Spirit • For obedience to Jesus Christ • Sprinkling of His blood • I Pet. 2:9 You are receiving the goal of your faith: salvation

  11. Election/Chosen • 2 Pet.1:10 Make your calling sure • Rev. 17:14 We will be with Him when He overcomes! • Luke 23:35 & I Pet. 2:4 Jesus Christ is God’s Chosen One • I Tim. 5:21 God has chosen angels!
