Improving Life Chances • Children’s House Nursery School is committed to: • giving children in Tower Hamlets the best possible start in life • working in partnership with families • drawing on community resources including partnerships with health • building resilience • empowering parents to support their children • providing pathways to employment through a structured volunteer programme
Children’s House works in partnership with parents/carers ‘Parents are children’s first and most enduring educators. When parents and practitioners work together in early years settings, the results have a positive impact on children’s learning and development’ • The Effective Provision of Pre-School Education (EPPE) (2004) report concludes ‘What parents do is more important than who parents are’
Why do we volunteer? • Giving back to our outstanding nursery • We want to support our community • We believe in the Early Words Together programme • We want opportunities to grow and develop • For some of us it is a springboard to employment or a chance to keep learning and developing • We want to give all children the best start in life
Early Words Together at Children’s House Nursery School Aims and objectives engage volunteers in promoting the importance of literacy, empowering them within their own communities support local partnerships and help facilitate joined-up working to support access to services • use literacy to enhance children’s attachment • support children’s literacy development by increasing their enjoyment and engagement • empower parents to support their child’s learning, improving the home learning environment by including positive literacy behaviours in daily interactions with their child
