  2. What is the Yavapai Library Network (YLN)? The Yavapai Library Network is a countywide consortium of academic, public, school, and special libraries. Its purpose is to provide Yavapai County residents with quality library services, information, and materials.

YLN Profile Currently home to thirteenschool libraries including Beaver Creek, Camp Verde, Chino Valley, Humboldt, and Prescott School District libraries as well as the Orme School of Arizona Library. There is also one joint-use library. Home to five academic libraries and twenty-onepublic libraries. Hosts eight special collections.

  6. PUSD Profile Items borrowed • A total of 4,725 items were borrowed from other YLN members. • This represents approximately $50,000 worth of items district libraries did not have to purchase. • There is no limit on the number of books that can be borrowed from other members.

  8. PUSD Profile Circulation • Each library has their own circulation rules. • Over 100,000 items were checked out in CY 2012. • Elementary school libraries circulate more items than the middle school and high school libraries. • The number of students at a school means more circulation.

YLN Library Services Integrated Library System (ILS) administration and support • Access to the most popular enterprise-class ILS • Access to the VuFind catalog • 24x7 support • 3 dedicated staff members • Regular updates/upgrades applied off-hours • Purchase of a new ILS included in membership • Data center designed to maximize uptime

YLN Library Services Radio-Frequency Identification services (RFID) • Inventory scanner can be checked out • Equipment installation services • RFID tags included in membership at no cost • RFID conversion equipment for use with barcoded items Access to materials • Access to 1.2 million items • Access to 100,000 ebooks • Central sorting of items

Membership Responsibilities • Must share collection of items • Pick up/drop off items at the transit center • Attend committee/user group meetings • Sign a membership contract • Pay membership dues • Provide adequate bandwidth to access YLN services • Provide technology that supports YLN services • Provide compatible item barcodes

Member Library Financial Responsibilities • All YLN operational expenses (about $400,000) arepaid for by the Yavapai County Free Library District • YLN members are responsible for a capital reserve “sinking fund” • Obligation determined via formulary • Variables are constant while amounts fluctuate • Item transportation costs

Costs Versus Benefits • Every dollar spent equals ten dollars worth of services • This equates to $15,000 expended for $150,000 worth of services • 100% of funds expended will eventually go back to the libraries • The opportunity to get other donations from other YLN members • Existing resources are leveraged to access greater resources • New services added at no cost

Services Coming Soon • Zinio Digital Magazines • Hundreds of magazines • Provided County-wide to all libraries • Universal Class • Over 500 online classes available • Approved by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training • Earn Continuing Education credits • Courses are self-paced • Example courses include ESL Grammar and Writing, Autism 101, Applied Behavior Analysis Strategies for Teachers, and How to Be a Substitute Teacher • The ability to send notices via text message
