  2. Scenario #1 You fall in love. In fact, you fell in love a long time ago. The object of your affection has been on your mind, in your thoughts, in your dreams, everywhere you go. This is your one true love that you have no doubt in your mind is supposed to be your future. Guess what? It’s your lucky day. The object of your affection is yours. However, there’s something you should know. Years down the road, your loyal friend will fall in love with yours truly and will create a raging war amidst your once indestructible bond as friends. What do you decide? Love or demise?

  3. Scenario #2 You are on a ship that is about to sink. The stormy waters are so treacherous that if you chance them you will either drown or suffer hypothermia. There is a small lifeboat that will guarantee the safety of only two passengers. Which two people do you save—your mom, dad, sibling, best friend, or yourself?

  4. Task #1 • Reread Sir Gawain’s quest on p. 60-62 OR King Pellinore’s quest on p. 67-69. • Create two chivalrous themes. (Example: The author illustrates the gradual yet inescapable downfall of chivalry when it is aligned with courtly love.) • Provide one piece of textual evidence including the page number to support each theme in #2. • Create an overarching complex message that combines both themes from above. Provide an explanation how this combines themes based on the story.

Theme Formula: Author + Strong verb + topic + insight (behavior and chivalry) • Chivalrous Theme Statement Examples: • The author illustrates how rage can overcome a person’s most basic sensibilities, resulting in irrational decisions. • The author illustrates that no matter the feelings towards a foe, mercy may lead to the most optimal outcome. • Overarching complex message: • The author exemplifies how abiding by morals can avoid chaos and reveal honorable character.
